New Delhi: The DDMA on Sunday blocked the yearly Kanwar Yatra in the city to decrease the spread of COVID-19 .

“No festivals, parades, social affairs, and so on will be permitted during impending Kanwar Yatra-2021 beginning from 25 July in NCT of Delhi,” expressed a request gave by the DDMA

The DDMA request came a day after the yatra was blocked in Uttar Pradesh.

The yatra generally goes on till the principal seven day stretch of August and sees a large number of Shiva aficionados, called ”kanwariyas”, walking for the most part from adjoining states, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, to gather water from the Ganges in Haridwar in Uttarakhand.

Reacting to an inquiry on the prohibition on Kanwar Yatra in Uttarakhand, Delhi boss priest Arvind Kejriwal had said recently that legislatures should find each way to forestall the spread of COVID-19 .
